Religious Education Curriculum

Religious Education is compulsory at James Sheahan Catholic High School. Students in Years 7 begin with an understanding of our charisms and across the four years will deepen their understanding of our Catholic faith. Units of work centred on the Gospels, the Sacraments, models of faith, healing, divine writing and the Church in Australia are supported by opportunities for students to be involved in the Catholic Schools Youth Ministry International classes and the Youth Ministry Team at the school.

In Years 11 and 12, students will build on these strong foundations and branch out into more academic studies of other world faiths, philosophical underpinnings of religion, and the spirituality of Indigenous peoples of Australia. Students may elect to undertake Studies of Religion 1 Unit or 2 Unit for HSC examinations, or they may wish to pursue Studies in Catholic Thought - a non-examinable religion course. Students at James Sheahan Catholic High School may also be offered the Studies of Religion 1 Unit course in a compressed form, allowing students to complete the HSC in this course a year earlier.
